Columbus Engagement | Emily + Mikel
How did the two of you meet? We met while working at a newspaper in Lafayette, Indiana – Mikel was a reporter and Emily was an editor. Even though we technically met in fall 2010 (and our desks were only about 20 feet apart), it wasn’t until spring 2012 that we actually had a full conversation and got to know each other.
Tell me about the proposal! After a dinner out after work one night, we went to Emily’s place to catch up on TV (or so Emily thought). While she was out of the room for a minute, Mikel pulled out his iPad and said, “Hey, I have something to show you.” It was “our story,” told through a series of illustrations Mikel had drawn and colored over the past month. The last panel was a picture of Mikel holding a ring – and then he proposed. After Emily said yes, Mikel thought we’d actually watch TV, but we spent the rest of the night calling up our family and friends to tell them the news!
What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day? We are most looking forward to actually being married, but we’re also excited about having all of our family and friends together (many of whom will be traveling very far) to celebrate with us. We can’t wait!
Any other info you would like to share about your love story? Our paths almost crossed once before! Before we met in Indiana, Emily had worked at a small paper in western Pennsylvania, near where she grew up. After she left Pennsylvania and moved to Indiana, Mikel was searching for his first job, and was offered a position at the same small paper. Lucky for Emily, he turned it down and took the job in Indiana, and the rest is history!
