To My Best Friend
Don't be afraid to tell me when I'm wrong or need to fix something. But at the end of every day please kiss me goodnight and know that I would do anything for you. I promise to love and care for you all the days of my life. To hold your hand and stand beside you through thick and thin. Te eat lots of baked goods from our kitchen. To come home with a smile on my face. To always try to see your side. To never ever go to bed angry. To love as much as humanly possible and trust God's lead in our new life together. I love you so much and can't wait to make it last.
I wrote these words exactly one year ago, the morning before we said "I do." It feels like only days ago that we were planning our wedding details and honeymooning through Europe. How have twelve months gone by so quickly? We have already gone through so many changes in these last few months. Being away from you for an entire week in December was difficult, but I loved knowing that we were both serving and leading in areas that God had placed us. Deciding to both be in graduate school seemed impossible, but God has already opened new doors we never dreamed of. I have been catching small glimpses of what our future holds, and I know God has an incredible life planned for us.
As quickly as this past year has passed, I feel like I've known you forever. The way that you can read my mind or plan surprises that are absolutely perfect. The way that you sometimes know me better than I know myself and are always so supportive of my dreams. I've spent the last year journaling almost daily. It was mainly prayers, but I always ended with something I loved about you. Here are a few of my favorites...
-I love when Todd wakes me up with a kiss
-I love weekend mornings with my husband
-I love when Toddy surprises me with lunch while I'm stuck in studio
-I love when we hug things out and turn a not so great day into an amazing one
-I love it when Todd gives me a back rub for no reason
-I love when Todd can't keep surprises. He has been begging me to open my Christmas present already (this was written an entire month before Christmas!)
-I love hearing Todd talk about his faith to our small group. Some people even think his words are eloquent :)
-I love how supportive and encouraging my husband is. He is always pushing me to follow my dreams
-I love going on dates with Todd knowing he doesn't have to say goodnight at the front door
I love your freckles, your yellow shirts, your heart for serving, the way your hand fits perfectly in mine. I love dreaming about our future, traveling the world, buying our first house, raising beautiful children, and growing old with you. I had never even planned on even dating until I was finished with school, but I am so grateful to get to spend these extra years being your wife.
We thought about taking a weekend trip to a new city, but with the rainy forecast, we opted to stay home. It was perfect. Sleeping in, breakfast in bed, reading through our honeymoon journal, homemade dinners, pumpkin spice lattes, and movie nights. I couldn't have planned a better way to celebrate being together. Thank you for the most amazing first year and for saying yes to forever. Love, Me
